So 7 weeks until the big day, huh?
Last week, I hope, you started a studying plan so you should have a routine worked out leading up to this – remember if you have a strategy and execute it properly you will have all the confidence you need!
Before we get into the answer to last week’s question, I just want to share a great blog I have found with you called ‘Punk Rock HR’.
It covers everything from interviewing skills to employer branding, and makes for a pretty entertaining read as well:

This Week
This week there was even more discussion on the Facebook group, which is always good to see!
What amazed me most about the feedback from last week’s question was the variety of answers, which is good; this shows you how one question can be perceived by different people on the exam and the different rationales that can surface.
So what was the answer?
It was “D”
Why D?
Well, the short answer is – it was the best answer available.
A) would be very timely, and not necessarily effective
B) would not likely get realistic answers, unless done by a 3rd party (which is not mentioned in the answer, so assume it is being done by an HR rep)
C) Hate to sound too PC, but this discriminates against males so backlash may be created, and may not even be effective
D) Perhaps the problem does stem from hiring practices, and policies surrounding things like family-leave time, and things of this nature that traditionally attract female workers
Week 5 Update
You are an HR Manager for a small (300 employee) manufacturing firm on the east coast of Canada. Your company is well-respected in the community from the regular involvement in children’s charities and sponsorships. It is a Saturday afternoon, and you are watching the local news channel when your company name gets mentioned. An employee has been found guilty of possessing (on his home computer) and distributing child pornography. The employee is a floor supervisor with over 10 years of experience, has done well on all his previous performance reviews, and has an excellent employment record at the company.
What do you do?
a) This case is in the arms judicial system now. Do nothing until a verdict has been reached.
b) Suspend the employee with pay until the case has been through the judicial system and a verdict has been reached; Determine next steps from there.
c) Terminate the employee for just cause.
d) Terminate the employee with full severance package.
The answer will be posted next week on our Facebook Group: Canadian HR Press – Guides & Resources
Good luck with your studying, and if you have any questions in the meantime feel free to email me!
Have a good week,
